Free Autoresponders - Top 3 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Use Them

Sunday, October 17, 2010

So you've been told that Autoresponders will benefit your business by automating your e-mail follow-up campaigns. If you research some of the main autoresponder companies on the Internet you'll realize you will have to pay a monthly fee. As your subscriber base grows this fee increases. Instead of using a professional autoresponder service you decide to use a free autoresponder. This may seem like a good idea initially however you'll run into problems down the road.

Top 3 reasons why you shouldn't use Free Autoresponders

1. Company may go out of business

Some years ago I decided to try a free autoresponder service. Everything was going fine until one day the person running the service sent me a notice saying it would be discontinued. This was a real hassle because I had installed the sign up form on many web pages and collected thousands of subscribers. I had to find a new company, reinstall the sign-up forms and import my lists. Unfortunately some autoresponder companies don't allow you to import your current list of subscribers without them resubscribing. This resulted in losing a large portion of subscribers I had acquired over several months.

2. Deliverability

There is no guarantee your e-mail us will be delivered with a free autoresponder service. The sales page may say they have a good delivery rate but after trying it out you may find out all your e-mails don't get delivered. A professional autoresponder service such as Aweber guarantees 99% delivery rate because they have built strategic relationships with the major Internet providers. They also guarantee you'll receive no spam complaints.

3. Reliability

The saying "you get what you pay for"is really true. Free autoresponders are not as reliable as professional autoresponders because they may lack knowledgeable technical support and skimp on features. E-mail marketing is one of the backbones of your business so you want to make sure your contacts are well taken care of. Using free autoresponders will only harm your business in the future.

When should you use a free autoresponder?

The reason I initially used a free autoresponder service was to find out how it worked. I'd heard a lot about them but was not prepared to pay the monthly fee for a professional service. If I was to begin all over again I would take the test drive offered by Aweber. It enables you to test all the features of their service for one month and it only costs you $1.
