Be Connected Better Than Ever: WiMAX Equipment

Monday, October 18, 2010

WiMAX, which stands for 'Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access', is an all-new technology of Internet access. The plain old dial-up and the wired broadband will pale because of its fast speed, extreme mobility and reliability - things which the average user will want, given the phenomenon Internet is nowadays. WiMAX is very much like WiFi, but on steroids. Unlike the latter's limited range of a few feet, the former actually cover a very large area such as a whole city. Within the WiMAX range, one can have a true 24/7 Internet on-the-go. Given these capabilities, WiMAX has a very bright future. It will someday change people's lifestyle.

The successor of 2G and 3G standards, WiMAX is also called by its IEEE name 802.16. In essence, it is a wireless broadband with a structure similar to that of WiFi. This system has two main WiMAX equipment components- WiMAX tower and WiMAX receiver. The Internet service provider's network is linked to the WiMAX tower, which sends signals over its coverage area (like the WiFi's wireless router). A WiMAX receiver, which can be anything from laptops or wireless devices, then gains access to the Internet. It is WiFi on steroids. WiMAX Internet has a speed of up to 70 megabits per second, which is impressive; and a wide range of 50 km radius radiating from any WiMAX tower. The speed is considerably faster than the dial-up or wired broadband. The greatest strength of WIMAX, compared to dial-up and wired broadband, is the distance it can reach. The 50 km radius is very wide, akin to the size of a small city. To cover greater tracts of land and to also make the Internet access more 'dense', an Internet service provider can add more WiMAX equipment. Of course, there are certain factors that can affect the WiMAX equipment's performance. Circumstances such as terrain, weather, number of users and large skyscrapers can reduce the WiMAX range and speed. Nevertheless, WiMAX equipment is a very promising technology.

People nowadays have multiply accounts in social networking sites, such as Twitter and Facebook. An average Internet user checks and updates these accounts daily. Aside from that, emails and instant messaging are now also important mediums of communication. Being connected online is very significant, because the world is getting closer each passing day. With WiMAX, everyone can now have an extreme mobile Internet connectivity. One won't have to look for WiFi hotspots, as the web can be accessed anywhere within the WiMAX equipment range. Twitter and Facebook accounts can be updated while on a train; emails and instant messages can be sent and received while strolling; online games can be played and movies can be downloaded while sitting on a bench - the capabilities of WiMAX are endless. It is only a matter of time before it becomes more preferred than wired broadband.

Internet service providers are starting to offer WiMAX services. It is slowly gaining a foothold in the market, because netizens these days want to be more connected than ever. That is very possible in the very near future.
